چکیده

We describe Fourier pseudospectral time-domain simulations, carried out in order to study light interacting with a metallic nanoscale object. The difficulty of using Fourier methods to accurately predict the electromagnetic scattering in such problems arises from the discontinuity in the dielectric function along the surface of the metallic object. Standard Fourier methods lead to oscillatory behavior in approximating solutions that are nonsmooth or that have steep gradients. By applying the Gegenbauer reconstruction technique as a postprocessing method to the Fourier pseudospectral solution, we successfully reduce the oscillations after postprocessing. Our computational results, including comparison with finite-difference time-domain simulations, demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the method. 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Propagation and Interaction of Electrostatic and Electromagnetic Waves in Two Stream Free Electron Laser in the Presence of Self-Fields

A relativistic theory for two-stream free electron laser (FEL) with a one-dimensional helical wiggler and ion-channel guiding in the presence of self-fields are presented. A dispersion relation (DR) which includes coupling between the electromagnetic and the electrostatic waves is derived from a fluid model, with all of the relativistic terms related to the transverse wiggler motion. This DR is...

Trouble with Gegenbauer reconstruction for defeating Gibbs phenomenon: Runge phenomenon in the diagonal limit of Gegenbauer polynomial approximations

To defeat Gibbs phenomenon in Fourier and Chebyshev series, Gottlieb et al. [D. Gottlieb, C.-W. Shu, A. Solomonoff, H. Plasmonic Solar Cells, a New Way to Enhance Energy Conversion Efficiency: Analysis and Modeling of Effect of Metal Geometry

In this article, the effect of plasmonic properties of metal nanoparticles with different shapes, and moreover, their plasmonic-photonic interaction, on solar cell performance were investigated and simulated. Because of low conversion efficiency and then high cost of solar cells, it is difficult to commercialize and replace them with conventional energy resources. But in recent years, the plasm...

Electromagnetic coupling and plasmon localization in deterministic aperiodic arrays

In this paper we explore the potential of one-dimensional and two-dimensional deterministic aperiodic plasmonic arrays for the design of electromagnetic coupling and plasmon-enhanced, sub-wavelength optical fields on chip-scale devices. In particular, we investigate the spectral, far-field and near-field optical properties of metal nanoparticle arrays generated according to simple deterministic...

Electromagnetic coupling between a metal nanoparticle grating and a metallic surface.

The electromagnetic coupling between a two-dimensional grating of resonant gold nanoparticles and a gold metallic film is investigated. We report on the observation of multipeaks in the extinction spectra attributed to resonant modes of the hybrid system, resulting from the coupling between the localized plasmon of the nanoparticles with the underlying surface plasmon mode. Simulations based on...
